Dr. Potters is an internationally renowned expert in the treatment of prostate cancer and is recognized as a leader in the field of radiation oncology. He is pleased to announce his appoint as Chairman of radiation Oncology at North Shore Health System with offices at North Shore University Hospital and Long Ilsand Jewish Medical Center.
Dr. Potters received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. From there, Dr. Potters completed a residency program in both Internal Medicine and Radiation Oncology and is board-certified in both specialties.
In 1992, Dr. Potters became the first physician to offer prostate brachytherapy on Long Island during his tenure as an attending in radiation Oncology at the North Shore University Hospital. In 1994, he became Chief of Radiation Oncology at Mercy Medical Center and in 1997, joined the faculty of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center where he was an Associate Professor in Radiation Oncology. Dr. Potters is a member of the medical fraternal organization, Alpha Omega Alpha and was awarded a Fellowship in the American College of Radiology in 2001. He has published over 44 peer reviewed articles on prostate cancer and 14 book chapters and editorials in various medical publications. He has delivered over 60 abstract presentations at scientific meetings and frequently lectures nationally and internationally. He is on the Editorial Board of ONCOLOGY and BRACHYTHERAPY and is a peer reviewer for 9 additional scientific journals.
Dr. Potters is a member of the Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the Cmission of Health Policy for American College of Radiology and the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology (ASTRO), the largest international association of radiation oncologists. Dr. Potters was invited by Dr. Mark McClellan, Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to sit as a member of the Advisory Panel on Ambulatory Payment Classification Group. Dr. Potters serves several medical societies by sitting or chairing more than 14 committees and task forces. He is the partial owner of the copyright for Prostate Research DataBase and Project Haliard (a web based database).
Dr. Potters joined the staff at South Nassau Communities Hospital to develop the New York Prostate Institute into an internationally recognized center of excellence in the care of prostate cancer.
